A Diamond Dove was seen feeding in a burnt out area of woodland just short of the gate to the sewage works this afternoon. A few minutes later, a Square-tailed Kite (probably juvenile) circled around the same area.
A single Diamond Dove feeding amongst Peaceful Doves in a grassy area behind the hospital. Seen on 16, 17 & 18 August. The area is labelled [3] on the hospital area map in Finding Birds in Darwin, Kakadu & the Top End.

At Buffalo Creek at high tide this morning:

Red-necked Stint - 50

Great Knot - 15
Red Knot - 2 (one quite reddish)
Terek Sandpiper - 2

Rainbow Pitta - 3; one seen; three separate birds heard calling at one time (probably though not definitely including the one seen). One bird called twice, the others only once each.
A small influx of ducks during the past week, suggesting that some wetlands are starting to dry up.

Little Ringed Plover - 1
Little Egret - 3, including 1 nominate subspecies
This page is for any news, notes etc related to birds and birding in the NT. I'll try to keep it up to date and perhaps allow others to post their bird notes as well.
