Kakadu National Park is approximately 250 km east of Darwin via the Arnhem Highway
or 60 km north of Pine Creek via the Kakadu Highway.
The Park contains a diverse range of habitats including open woodlands,
monsoon forests, sandstone escarpment, floodplains and billabongs.
Approximately 300 species of birds have been recorded within the Park,
including Chestnut-quilled Rock-Pigeon, Banded Fruit-Dove and White-throated Grasswren,
which are only found within or near Kakadu National Park.
The Bowali Visitors Centre at Park Headquarters, near the junction of the Kakadu
and Arnhem Highways, and Warrdjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Cooinda,
are both excellent sources of information on all aspects of the Park.
Due to its size it is not feasible to cover Kakadu National Park in one day.
There are several campgrounds within the Park and cabin and motel accommodation
can be found at South Alligator, Jabiru, Cooinda and Mary River Roadhouse.
There is a supermarket at Jabiru, where supplies can be purchased on weekdays or Saturday mornings.
